Exploring climate change through the lens of phenomena, such as extreme weather events, allows educators and students to see directly the impacts, and possible solutions, to climate change on a regional level. Join Climate Generation educator Seth Spencer as we explore extreme weather events, how they are connected to climate change, and how to engage your students in finding potential solutions. This workshop is offered as a part of the Midwest Climate Collaborative’s Educator Community of Practice.

We understand that some of these workshops do not work for educator’s schedules, so all registrants will receive a recording and additional resources to their e-mail within 1 week of the event. Civilian starvation is a tragic feature in armed conflicts, yet no court has entered a conviction for an international crime on this charge. This webinar examines challenges in prosecuting starvation as a war crime in situations such as Ethiopia, Gaza, Syria, and Ukraine.

Every year, Human Rights Educators USA (HRE USA) holds its Training as Action Series (TAAS), a virtual training series focused on bridging personal and collective action on some of the most critical human rights issues of today. TAAS creates an educational space to connect and collaborate with others in human rights education and training. It also gives participants the skills and information needed to take action on rights issues in their communities.
The theme of the 2024-2025 training series is: “Youth Power, Defending Human Rights: Learnings and Actions for the 35th Anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).” Sessions will discuss topics such as youth rights, the CRC, education as a tool for empowerment, international youth solidarity, the theory of change, digital citizenship, and mental wellness.

To become a participant of the 2024-2025 TAAS program, please register here. You can register for individual sessions or you can register for the entire series. Participants that attend at least six sessions over the course of the 2024-2025 TAAS program (including the introductory session) will receive a certification from HRE USA.

Human Rights Educators USA (HRE USA) invites nominations for the 2024 Edward O’Brien Human Rights Education Awards. These awards were established in memory of Ed O’Brien, pioneer human right educator and valued member of HRE USA who died suddenly in 2015.
There are two awards annually. One recognizes an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to human rights education in the United States. The other honors an organization, institution, or program that has made a similarly outstanding contribution to human rights education in the United States. Please review descriptions of past winners on this page.
The 2024 Edward O’Brien Human Rights Education Awards will be presented on International Human Rights Day, December 10, 2024.
