International Advocacy

HRE USA monitors the United States’ compliance with human rights treaty obligations and in particular treaties in which the United States has committed to teaching its own people the fundamental principles of human rights.

Our efforts include submitting shadow reports to accompany and critique U.S. government reports to the UN Human Rights Council as part of the Universal Periodic Review process, convening summits on the national status of HRE in the United States with relevant stakeholders, and putting pressure on the U.S. government to fulfill their treaty obligations.

HRE USA submits Report as part of U.S. mid-term review UPR process

Human Rights Educators USA (HRE USA) and the University and College Consortium for Human Rights Education (UCCHRE) submitted a shadow report to the UN Human Rights Council highlighting the need for greater human rights education across higher education institutions in the United States.

HRE USA Advocates for U.S. to Fulfill Human Rights Treaty Obligations

In 2016, we partnered with US Human Rights Network, to engage the United States on fulfillment of its human rights obligations.

HRE USA submits First National Civil Society Report on HRE

On 12 September 2014, Human Rights Educators USA, together with the US Human Rights Network, successfully submitted the first national civil society report on human rights education to the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
