University and College Consortium for Human Rights Education

The University and College Consortium for Human Rights Education was established in April 2016 out of a group of individuals, including many HRE USA members. The group saw the need for and benefit of collaboration among those engaged in human rights education.

The consortium consists of practitioners, researchers, instructors, advocates, professionals, students, administrators, alumni and other members of the university and college communities globally that are engaged in human rights education. Their mission is to further human rights education, research and learning by promoting engagement, collaboration, innovation, and mentorship within higher education.

UCCHRE hosts monthly membership conference calls, which provide a forum to discuss a variety of issues of common concern among human rights educators in colleges and universities. Recently, the consortium developed a member survey designed to gather information on human rights programs and practitioners in higher education, which is now live on their website. UCCHRE also partnered with HRE USA in the development of a Stakeholder Report for the mid-term cycle of the U.S. Universal Periodic Review at the UN Human Rights Council.
