Amnesty International USA is hosting an upcoming Lunch & Learn where you will be introduced to the Young Responders Network, a youth-led human rights education action program designed for students in grades 5–11.
The Young Responders Network empowers young people to take meaningful action in support of individuals around the world who have been jailed, harmed, disappeared, or silenced simply for exercising their right to freedom of expression. Through guided letter-writing campaigns, critical reflection, and hands-on activities, participants build advocacy, leadership, and civic engagement skills while making a real difference in the lives of others.
During this session, you’ll learn:
- How the Young Responders Network works
- What monthly Young Responders Urgent Actions look like
- How young people can engage in meaningful human rights advocacy
- Ways to implement the program in a variety of settings
- Resources and support available for facilitators
One of the most exciting aspects of the Young Responders Network is its flexibility. The program can be facilitated by student leaders, student activists, educators, librarians, parents and guardians, youth faith groups, and community-based youth organizations. It is designed for classrooms, libraries, clubs, after-school programs, faith communities, and home-learning environments.
Each month, participants receive 2–3 real-world human rights cases and opportunities to take action through letter writing and advocacy. No prior human rights experience is necessary! Just a commitment to empowering young people to use their voices for positive change.
