I grew up in Carolina, Puerto Rico. I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Spanish at the College of General Studies of the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, and I also teach in the Human Rights Minor Program. I coordinate the General Education Competency Assessment Project (PACEG – https://generales.uprrp.edu/avaluo/). With an interdisciplinary background and twenty years of teaching experience, I hold a Ph.D. in Latin American Literature from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, and I am currently pursuing a second Ph.D. in Citizenship and Human Rights at the University of Barcelona. My research focuses on the enforceability and effectiveness of Economic, Social, Cultural, and Environmental Rights (ESCER) in Puerto Rico (colonial context). I am also actively engaged in projects with the UNESCO Chair for Peace Education at UPR. In 2021, I was awarded the Flowers Fund Grant from HRE USA, which supported the creation of the literary contest Sentipensar los derechos humanos (www.sentipensarderechoshumanos.org) to foster human rights awareness among students through creative writing. I have published in academic journals, digital media, and national press, and have presented my work at national and international conferences. Other areas of research I have developed include Latin American literature, feminist criticism, anti- and decolonial thought, transdisciplinarity, general education and assessment, and food sovereignty.
