The perspectives, experiences, and knowledge Laura Michalski has gained as an educator of over 15 years in the US and abroad, to a variety of student demographics (deaf, hearing, mainstream, special education, and ELL),  provides her a unique perspective, level of empathy, and awareness of human rights issues. She has brought human rights education to underserved students in forms as simple as providing the development of life skills and self-advocacy resources to as complex as ensuring personal rights by expanding social activism into school and local communities.  She is excited to join the HRE USA Steering Committee and serve as the regional representative for Illinois as of August 2018.
