Jake Skrzypiec is an experienced social studies teacher in Manchester Public Schools, CT. He developed and teaches Manchester High School’s Human Rights class, a graduation required course for all students, early college experience conflict and peace studies and a social justice future educators course. Jake serves as summer adjunct faculty teaching human rights as part of this first generation focused UConn Collegiate Awareness & Preparation Program (ConnCap). 

Jake is the HRE USA co-regional representative for Connecticut and has served on the Edmonds Summer Fellowship committee, contributed to HRE USA’s curriculum and professional training efforts and was a 2020 Flowers Fund grantee.  Jake is also the co-chair of the National Council for the Social Studies Human Rights Education Community. In recent years, Jake has been a project writer with the Connecticut Social Studies Standards Project developing new civics and human rights focused social studies standards for Connecticut classrooms. His contributions have expanded into other statewide projects, including high school Native American studies and K-8 model curricula development. In addition, Jake is a steering committee member as part of the UConn Human Rights Close to Home Initiative, a three year project to elevate human rights and civic action for teachers and young people. He has guided the HRCH youth advisory team in 2022 and 2023 in the development of the HRCH Youth Summit, an innovative youth-led human rights conference for CT high school students. 

Jake is proud to work among many talented, committed educators, cares about elevating the voices of youth, and seeks to advance intersectional, intergenerational human rights education as a national call to action.
