Immigrant Rights

I had always hoped that this land might become a safe and agreeable asylum to the virtuous and persecuted part of mankind, to whatever nation they might belong.

~George Washington

Although free movement may seem to be a fairly minor and obvious human right, it actually is one of the most basic rights. Without the right to leave one’s home, a person may suffer many kinds of persecution and human rights abuses. All people retain their universal human rights no matter where in the world they may be, and every government must ensure that its laws, policies, and practices do not lead to abuse of immigrants’ human rights.
